How long has biofeedback been around?

Biofeedback evolved out of early laboratory research in the 1940’s. In the 1950’s and 1960’s researchers from different fields independently studied various applications of feedback mechanisms to modify physiological functions in animals and humans. Biofeedback is one of the earliest behavioral medicine treatments and has been practiced in clinical settings since the 1970’s.*

How effective is biofeedback?

For conditions such as stress related disorders, anxiety, and headaches, researchers found success rates of biofeedback sessions to be as high as 80-90%.*

How long until you see results?

Typically people will see improvement as soon as 3 to 4 sessions. Depending on their condition, general biofeedback sessions range from 8 to 12 sessions for optimal achievement.*

How lasting are the effects?

Benefits continue indefinitely as the individual implements various techniques learned during biofeedback sessions to control their psychophysiological responses.*

How long has neurofeedback been around?

Dr. Joe Kamiya and Dr. Barry Sterman utilized neurofeedback to reasearch the brainwaves in the 1960's. Research has continued and neurofeedback has grown extensively. This modality is now being used to treat many disorders and even train "peak performance".**

How effective is neurofeedback?

As the individual learns how to concentrate and focus and the brain learns to perform more effectively, the results of neurofeedback tends to be permanent and often, individuals are able to decrease medication.**

How long until you see results?

Like any disorder, the amount of neurofeedback sessions depends upon the individual and the diagnosis. Typically, for ADHD symptoms and children with autism, neurofeedback is effective and has permanent effects with 40-60 sessions.**
