Cognitive Training
Cognitive ability refers to the capacity of the brain to process information. Cognitive functioning includes perception, comprehension, reasoning, analytical processing, access to the brain’s database (memory), and learning.
Cognitive Training programs are designed to provide the brain with specific exercises to address personal needs (a mental gym). The science behind those programs is based upon understanding that the brain can change as we learn (brain plasticity, or, neuroplasticity)a gym for the mind. By exercising your mind, one may increase their ability to:
- register and process information quickly (auditory and visual)
- learn new information more easily
- sustain concentration in the presence of distractions
- recall old information
- multi-task (handle several tasks simultaneously).
Specifically, we utilize one or more of the following protocols for Cognitive Training:
- SmartMind® neurofeedback and cognitive training, initially in the office which can be transitioned to home training with annual lease of home-training equipment from BrainTrain. Occasional office visits would be required to readjust training settings according the trainee’s improvement.
- SoundSmart®, Auditory Attention Coach cognitive training, in the office training with a computerized "coach"
- SmartDriver® cognitive training, in the office training, behind a steering wheel.
